Abstract
I would like to express my sincere thanks to the organizing committee of the 6th International Wheat Conference — and particularly to Dr. Bedö, — for the opportunity to be able to present a new and dynamic approach to wheat breeding and thus my paper will reflect upon the way in which breeders can use material to mutual benefit. This will of course revolve around the utilisation of genetic resources — an aspect which is central to all breeding activities. I will be discussing genetic resources not only as potential material to be developed in the future, either using conventional or new techniques, but also as material which has historically been available and which is the ‘life blood’ of breeding in the future.
