Abstract
The answer to the question framed in the title of this chapter could just be: It is a myth. However, we are frequently confronted with this question by people who fundamentally know little or nothing about forest exploitation in the tropics. Therefore, it may be worthwhile to explain why the panic, created by some environmentalists, is not realistic.
