Abstract
Everybody acquainted with the import patterns for tropical timber is struck by the stable and very selective preferences for certain species as shown, year after year, on the lists of species imported by different European countries. This is especially true for countries with very old business ties with the tropics (cf. Chapter III-19). Countries that started comparatively late with the importation of tropical timber in quantity are less set in their choice.
