Abstract
The mass production of joinery by industry is a relatively recent phenomenon. It occurs, for the most part, in the industrialised countries (the United States, Western Europe, Japan), but France is, perhaps, unusual in having a joinery industry which, due to a grouping of firms, markets complete ranges of products.
