Abstract
A detailed description and analysis of the development, structure and level of social production in the CMEA countries would require the presentation of a vast number of facts. Within the scope of the present book this is not possible, nor is it necessary because our aim is to analyse the present monetary and payments system of the CMEA countries and to outline its development possibilities. The level and structure of social production and international economic relations will be examined here only from the following aspects :
-
whether the development level of social production in the member countries, the extensiveness of their international economic relations allow and require a wider use of commodity (market) and monetary categories (relations) within the individual countries;
-
whether the development level of the forces of production raises specific requirements with respect to the use of commodity and monetary categories in the member countries;
-
what requirements are raised by the international economic relations of the member countries with respect to the economic instruments to be used in foreign trade, on the one hand, and to the use of commodity and monetary categories in the individual countries, on the other.
