Human hepatocyte transplantation: biology and therapy

  • Chapter
The Hepatocyte Review

Abstract

The biology and technology of hepatocyte isolation and transplantation has been developed over three decades. This chapter which focuses on human hepatocytes, is divided into four sections. First, the methodology and clinically applied preparation, preservation, and banking of human hepatocytes will be described. The subsequent three sections will deal with human hepatocyte transplantation in acute and chronic liver failure and in four characterized primary hepatocellular metabolic disorders. Relevant, but limited animal modelling followed by human data is outlined.
