Abstract
Oil has been produced from the Timan Pechora Basin for a long time. From fields in the Komi Republic oil is transported to refineries in Ukhta and Yaroslavl. In the northern part of the basin, however, production has only just started. The Nenets Autonomous Okrug alone has reserves estimated to more than 6 billion bbls while the offshore part of the region, where exploration has hardly started, could have more than 2 billion bbls.
