Abstract
The soil and rhizosphere microorganic population is very varied consisting of different groups of microbes including actinomycetes, bacteria, fungi and micro-algae. They are essential for the healthy growth and development of plants. Various techniques of isolation and identification of these microbes have been described. Modern methods of microbial identification have also been described.
