Abstract
In this chapter we shall use the formalism derived in the last chapter to develop a perturbation theory for orbits inside stellar systems. We shall use the theory for a number of cases which will be of interest to us later. It is important to note that in this section we are only considering individual stars and thus we cannot infer anything about collective instability in the system, which requires a self-consistent build up of the combination of the perturbations to all the orbits of the stars in the system. A good account of the use of action and angle variables in perturbation theory can be found in [30].
