Abstract

At present the interest in solids with needle and layer structures is considerable. In order to describe the properties of such crystals, a quasi-one-dimensional approach may be applied. Some processes, occuring in ordinary crystals, may also be studied on the basis of one-dimensional models where nonlinear phenomena are described using the sine-Gordon equation. The review by A. Scott et al. [123] is devoted to numerous applications of the sine-Gordon equation.
