Abstract
At the end of 1994 the Brazilian National Space Research Institute (INPE) started the development of a scientific microsatellite programme, called the SACI Programme. This satellite was based on the experience acquired during the execution of the Complete Brazilian Space Mission (MECB)
The SACI Programme was sponsored by the Federal Financing Agency for Studies and Projects (FINEP). Brazilian universities also participated, developing some of the scientific experiments. The choice of the experiments was made under the responsibility of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC). The scientific experiments selected were PLASMEX (study of plasma bubbles), MAGNEX (geomagnetic experiments), PHOTOEX (airglow photometer) and ORCAS (solar and anomalous cosmic rays).
