Abstract
The purpose of this chapter is to provide an overview of psychological research on decision making under risk. This research tradition has supplied many insights into how humans react to risk and uncertainty. These insights help explain why people take considerable financial risks under some circumstances and avoid smaller risks under other circumstances.
