Abstract
From 1990 through 1992, the Institute for Water and Environmental Problems (IWEP) along with other institutes of the Siberian Division of the Russian Academy of Sciences has conducted a research program devoted to assessing water management and the ecological state of the Tom River and its basin. Several environmentally-devastated urban and industrial areas are located in the river. River stretches receive heavy pollutant loads and sometimes experience shortages of water.
