Abstract
Monitoring water quality data in Slovenia are part of the proposed environmental protection information system of the National Hydrometeorological Institute and will be both national and international in context. The database format is described as well as the legislative and document background of agreements to share monitoring data. International monitoring and data-sharing procedures are described in some detail. The importance of long-term monitoring data for the resolution of transboundary water quality issues is stressed.
