Spectroscopic techniques

  • Chapter
Practical Inorganic Chemistry

Abstract

The application of spectroscopic techniques to the solution of chemical problems is now well established. The following account deals primarily with experimental procedure, which will enable the reader to carry out successfully the spectroscopic aspects of the experimental work described previously. The interpretation of results is discussed and an elementary theoretical treatment presented. This treatment, although not exhaustive, is introduced in order that the reader may more readily correlate theory with practice. Many advanced texts are available which deal with the basic theory of spectroscopy, and some are suitable for student use.
