Phospholipid Metabolism by Castor Microsomes

Abstract

Intact metabolites of 2-[14C]oleoyl-PC have been separated and identified by HPLC after incubation with castor microsomes. The metabolic pathway of phospholipids was shown to be 2-oleoyl-PC ➙ 2-ricinoleoyl-PC ➙ ricinoleate ➙ triglycerides (e. g. triricinolein). The phospholipase A2 strongly favored release of ricinoleate over other fatty acids from PC.
