Continuous Flows and Avalanches of Grains

  • Chapter
Physics of Dry Granular Media

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((NSSE,volume 350))

Abstract

We review both experimental and theoretical works concerning granular flows. We successively address the regime of slow deformations, which is mainly governed by sterical interactions and friction forces, then the rapid flow regime, which deals with inelastic collisions, and lastly the regime of intermittent avalanches.
