Abstract
As described in previous chapters, the participation of local people is recognized as an important element in sustainable forest policy. Many activities are related to local participation, but many obstacles are often encountered when trying to implement them. One obstacle is the failure to clearly define participation leaving it open to be interpreted in many ways.
