Environmental Adaptation in Supplier-Customer Relationships

  • Chapter
Partnership and Leadership

Part of the book series: Eco-Efficiency in Industry and Science ((ECOE,volume 8))

Abstract

This chapter focuses on partnerships between supplier and customer organisations which are used to reduce the environmental impact of the supply chain activities in which the companies are involved. A company might be able to pursue strategies for sustainable development without the contribution of or reliance on outside parties. However, companies do not operate in isolation of each other and some initiatives pursued by businesses affect customer or supplier organisations and will require their contribution. We therefore explore the processes followed by companies to introduce environmental adaptations where the support of exchange partners is required. By examining this process, the events and activities which result in environmental adaptation can be understood, as well as the factors which affect the progression of the process.
