Abstract
In the United Kingdom, the 1990s witnessed a proliferation of government funded agencies, non-governmental organisations, consultants, environmental pressure groups and individuals providing support for business to improve its environmental performance. The most common objective of these organisations was to raise awareness of environmental issues within business, and to facilitate the integration of environmental concerns into the management process. The increasing number and diversity of organisations providing such environmental business support has led to a bewildering situation for company managers, who are often confused about the type of support available.
