Abstract

Embryology of plants deals with the first stages of development. Plant embryologists study the formation and development of ovules, pollen, embryos, endosperm, seeds and seedlings as well as the process of fertilization. In his book on the history of plant embryology Pavel A. Baranov describes it as being descriptive at first, comparative after that and later experimental (Baranov, 1955).
