Abstract
Territorial conflict has, in Irish history, a constant and decisive role. As time went by, it took on the most different characters: it was rural or urban, it took place in a static society or while society was in a process of growing dynamic change, it raged on the battlefield or in the insidious form of guerilla warfare, with or without foreign intervention.
