Abstract
We commemorate this year the 50th anniversary ofthe Bretton Woods conference which gave birth to the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. It is an important opportunity to reflect on the results of half a century of international monetary cooperation under the leadership of the Fund and also — as we propose to do on this occasion — to consider the role of the Fund in the international monetary system as we approach the threshold of the twenty-first century. I am sure that our good friend André Szász will actively participate in the reflection on the future of the International Monetary Fund.
