Abstract
We describe flow patterns observed in the Dischma valley and in the valley of the river Inn which appear to be induced by the diurnal heating cycle. Flow observations made in the valley of the Rhine and in the Strait of Juan de Fuca suggest that motion at larger scales can be modified considerably by valleys.
