Abstract
The subject of the present chapter is the Buckley-Leverett equation, which describes two-phase displacement of immiscible liquids through porous media, and the simultaneous flow of oil and water, in particular. Water-flooding of reservoirs, which is the basic process involved in the development of oil fields, can be described in a large-scale approximation by a quasi-linear first-order hyperbolic equation [64,197].
