Abstract

We present observations of the sky brightness obtained with a highspeed, wide field of view photometer and with a spectrometer at the Wise Observatory during the 1999 Leonid meteor campaign. The photometric measurements detected meteors and searched for overall increases in sky brightness. Spectroscopic measurements made at the zenith were used to measure the brightness of the Na I 5890Å doublet during the two nights before and during the Leonid peak. No significant enhancement took place in these transitions. The lack of increased Na emission is consistent with the estimates of mass influx during the storm.
