Abstract

Direct numerical simulation of a reacting shear layer is performed to investigate the mixture fraction field and its dissipation. A systematic study of the influence of heat release is undertaken. Substantial changes, both qualitative and quantitative, in the mixing of an active scalar (with heat release) with respect to a passive scalar are observed.
