Abstract
A major feature of separated gas-liquid and liquid-liquid flows is the waves that grow on the interface. Small amplitude, short wavelength waves can increase pressure drop and transport rates substantially. If longer wavelength waves form, these can grow to an amplitude large enough to cause roll waves or solitary waves, (which are the source of atomization) or for sufficiently deep layers, slugs.
