Investigations into Assessment in Mathematics Education

Part of the book series: New ICMI Study Series ((NISS,volume 2))

Abstract

International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Assessment (IEA) has conducted two comparative studies of mathematics education, first in 1967 and again in 1980. These large-scale studies, in which some 25 different countries participated, are important sources of data on student achievement, instructional practices, curricular emphases, and other indicators of the effectiveness of various educational systems. Such studies also provide information on the relative achievement of the participating countries and can serve as efficient mechanisms for monitoring international progress.
