Abstract
In this chapter we study the objects called vector bundles. The simplest example is the tangent bundle TM n over a manifold M n. A natural question is whether the bundle is trivial, that is, whether it is diffeomorphic to the product M n × ℝn. Generally, the answer is negative; the simplest example is the two-dimensional sphere S 2.
