Abstract

Still following the same pattern, this chapter will deal with the origins of the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), the most important provisions in its Convention and details of operation, concluding with a brief appraisal.

EFTA, by contrast [to the European Economic Community] — and largely because its objective was economic integration rather than political unification and its aims, in that respect, were pitched at the level of the currently and prospectively feasible — proceeded to the real nuts-and-bolts tasks of achieving effective integration free of the blinding glare of political publicity.
