Abstract

When speaking about Spengler’s impact on Wittgenstein’s later philosophy, scholars usually refer to influence of two kinds:

  1. (i)

    One kind concerned Wittgenstein’s general outlook toward his times, as underscored by von Wright in his paper “Wittgenstein in Relation to His Times” (1982);

  2. (ii)

    Another kind affected the method Wittgenstein adopted in his later investigations on language, as stressed by Rudolf Haller in his paper “War Wittgenstein von Spengler beeinflusst?” (1988).
