Abstract
We report a spectral analysis of X-ray sources detected serendipitously with the EPIC-pn detector onboard the XMM-Newton observatory. We have built a sample of 1837 sources selected in the energy band 0.5 – 4.5 keV. Currently we have optical identifications for 190 sources: 119 broad-line AGN (BLAGN), 23 narrow-line emitting galaxies (NELG), 12 normal galaxies, 34 stars, 1 cluster and 1 BL Lac. We fitted the sources broad band spectra (from 0.2 – 12 keV) with a single power law model plus Galactic absorption, but an analysis of the fits as a whole indicates that this model is not appropiate for this population. We refitted the spectra with an absorbed single power law model. With this model we obtained a significant improvement in the fits when considered as a whole. This indicates that a large fraction of the objects in our sample could be absorbed.
