Biosorption of heavy metals by Aspergillus niger

  • Chapter
Book cover Global Environmental Biotechnology

Abstract

The presence of toxic heavy metals in the environment, even in trace amounts, can pose a serious threat to aquatic life and humans. The toxic heavy metals are commonly found in effluents from industries such as metal plating, finishing and smelting, alloy manufacturing, and non-ferrous metallurgical plants. Identification of an effective and low-cost treatment technology for the removal of toxic heavy metals from wastewater is required.
