Abstract
This Chapter aims at presenting a holistic view of the coastal economy, which implies focusing on the coastal economic organisation instead of the individual coastal sectors. It will therefore be useful to adopt methodological criteria deduced by the theory of complexity and to build up patterns of the economic organisation. To avoid a purely conceptual presentation, the Mediterranean will be considered as a way of example. The following questions will be discussed:
