Abstract
The papers by Freedman and Spungin, who are both with the American Foundation for the Blind, consider the use of spatial sensory aids from the perspective of rehabilitation and the rehabilitation agency. Rehabilitation issues include the questions of training, perception, and cognition raised elsewhere in this volume. However, when the technology is refined and the behavioral research issues are resolved, rehabilitation personnel and agencies must actually incorporate the use of such devices within the range of other services to the blind. Thus the interest of the rehabilitation agency extends more broadly into sociological and political factors which have a bearing on the delivery of services generally.
