Abstract

This chapter constitutes a necessary prelude to the study of the following two. Up to this point, all rotating machines discussed in this book were connected to balanced three-phase systems, and accordingly, their analysis was based on the rotating magnetic field produced by balanced polyphase currents. But the two-phase servomotor to be studied in Chapter 16 operates with unbalanced supply voltages, and as far as the single-phase motor of Chapter 17 is concerned, it is certainly not obvious that it has anything at all to do with rotating fields.
