Protocol for microspore culture in Brassica

  • Chapter
Doubled Haploid Production in Crop Plants

Abstract

We have been using microspore culture of Brassica at the Institute of Horticulture and Crop Sciences, Agricultural University of Norway, since 1989, our focus has been on Brassica oleracea (cabbage), Brassica napus (swede) and Brassica rapa (chinese cabbage and summer turnip rapeseed). The protocol presented here is based on over 12 years of experience. In the very beginning we visited Centre for Plant Breeding and Research, Wageningen, The Netherlands, the Horticultural Research International, Wellesbourne, UK and University of Guelph, Canada to discuss an optimal protocol for microspore culture in Brassica and our protocol includes components from all three places.
