Abstract

Effective chemotherapy against a given pathogen is facilitated by prior knowledge of the organism’s susceptibility to relevant antibiotic(s). Without this knowledge drug treatment may be inappropriate — failing the patient and contributing to the problem of antibiotic-resistant pathogens.
