Abstract

After the syntactic conception of material and formal truth, due to Frege (1879) and Carnap (37), and the semantic conception of both truth concepts, due to Bolzano (1837) and Tarski (36), dialogic logic, as started by Lorenzen (60) and continued by Lorenz (61), sets up a pragmatic conception of material truth and of formal [logical] truth which claims to give a foundation to the theory of logical reasoning independent of an informal use of logical reasoning in the metalanguage.
