Abstract

The UK has become increasingly involved in Demilitarisation and Decontamination in the last few years. Much of the UK need could be met by the traditional methods of burning and sea dumping until recently, but the increased appreciation of environmental hazards has led to the development of more modern methods. These are broadly similar to those employed in other nations but extend to the decommissioning and decontamination of former UK MOD sites.

The work carried out in the UK on both topics will be covered and progress reported, together with an indication of the likely direction of future developments.
