Brassinosteroids and Brassinosteroid Analogues Inclusion Complexes in Cyclodextrins

  • Chapter
Brassinosteroids

Abstract

A new approach for enhancing the biological activity of a brassinosteroid, involving its administration as a guest in an inclusion complex of a plant growth inactive compound, is described. The method of choice of the host molecule, the preparation of brassinosteroid or brassinosteroid analogue inclusion complexes in cyclodextrins, their physical characterisation and an example of their biological activity are presented. The biological activity elicited by 24-epibrassinolide/ β-cyclodextrin inclusion complex is at least equivalent to that by 24-epibrassinolide itself.
