Abstract
The Cap aux Meules Formation is a thick sequence of Lower Permian eolian redbeds, exposed on the Magdalen Islands. The redbeds are undeformed with the exception of localized normal faulting above rising salt domes. The horsts, which form the islands, were initiated at the end of the Paleozoic by salt tectonics in the Magdalen Basin.
