Abstract
For the study of streptococcal wall growth and morphology, the standard organism used was originally called Streptococcus faecalis. Then it was called faecium, then Enterococcus, then hirae all changes were made for presumably good taxonomic reasons. Of the non-pathogenic Gram-positive cocci, we will focus on it because of the careful morphological studies with high resolution electron microscopy. The two terms, Streptococcus and Enterococcus, will be used interchangeably except when naming particular organisms.
