Abstract

Useful protein production by mammalian cell cultures would be improved if the viable culture period could be extended. Hybridoma cells, producers of monoclonal antibodies (MAb), tend to die quickly after reaching the maximum cell density. Therefore, protecting the cells from death which starts in the late exponential growth phase and maintaining their viability in batch culture for a longer time period should increase the MAb production of the culture.
