Abstract

This work deals with the control and design of a medical reactor to be used in the extracorporeal treatment of leukemia in children. In this work, an adaptive controller based on state space approach is developed and tested for the control of a medical reactor, using L-asparaginase attached on the internal open nylon tube. As a medical reactor, the design must be simple and safe to be operated. It was shown that the control algorithm was adequate to maintain the system in a specified operational condition when the manipulated variable was the electric current, even when significant disturbances took place as well as set point changes (servo control). This makes this system to be a promising method in the extracorporeal treatment of leukemia.
