Wetlands and Their Role in Geoecological Environment

  • Chapter
The Brahmaputra Basin Water Resources

Part of the book series: Water Science and Technology Library ((WSTL,volume 47))

Abstract

For conservation of biodiversity, production of fish and other aquatic resources, flood control, and ecological balance, wetlands play a fundamental role. Unfortunately, wetlands have been neglected in the Brahmaputra River basin and as a result they are degrading. This chapter presents a discussion of wetlands in the basin and their role in geo-ecological environment.
