Abstract
It is necessary to define the concept “forest” in this text as the word means different things to different people. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations in its classification makes a distinction between a “closed forest” defined as having a crown cover of more than 19 percent and “open woodlands” as having a crown cover of 5–19 percent. Savannah forest types would be considered open woodlands while the closed forest types could be of possible interest for industrial forestry.
