Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((NSSE,volume 108/109))

Abstract

The study of the irradiation of solid targets by laser light is a very interesting subject for the following investigations: a) the absorption of laser light by matter and the physical processes leading to plasma heating; b) the extension of laboratory plasma parameters to very high densities (ne≥102cm-3) and presesures (nekTe≅1108atmospheres); c) the generation of highly stripped ions; d) controlled fusion research. Spectroscopic analysis play an important role in all of these fields of study. [1]
