Abstract
As transient physical phenomena generally are connected with radiation, they may be analyzed by means of high-speed-photography in the nanosecond or, with some restrictions, even in the picosecond range. The most important requirements which have to be met by high-speed cameras are short exposure time, high spatial resolution, low geometrical distortion, wide spectral input sensitivity and precise triggering with short delay. The shutter ratio becomes especially important for recording transients with extremely high dynamics. Generally, short exposure times and/or weak input luminosity will require additional amplification of the recorded images.
